File sharing problem

Hi -
I am trying to get file sharing to work between 2 computers which connect
thru a router:
Desktop PC running XP Pro SP2 (possibly 1st mistake) using Windows
Firewall (2nd mistake?)
Laptop running ME, ZoneAlarm Firewall
Before I installed XP Pro on the desktop, it had 98SE on it - I could
mount folders back and forth, share printers, etc. I put on XP on the one
machine, and on the XP machine, I can mount the ME's folders, use the
printer, etc. When I try to mount the XP's folders on the ME machine, I get
....is not accessible. Access is denied. error. The folder is shared. I
installed NetBEUI on the XP machine.
How do I tell if this is a firewall issue or a network issue, and then
fix it?
Thanks!
Brian

You do not need NetBEUI. In the Windows Firewall applet, go to the
Exceptions tab and put a check in the box next to File & Printer
Sharing. In ZoneAlarm, you will have to add your lan's IP range as
Trusted. Check with the Help file in ZoneAlarm if you do not know how
to do this.

Already set

Already done - and the XP machine with the Windows Firewall can already Map
the drive on the ME/ZoneAlarm machine. It won't work the other way.

Still doesn't work

OK, you've got the firewalls set up correctly. Before anything else, are
you 100% sure both computers are completely virus and malware-free? If
you think you are sure, what did you do to determine this?

Assuming that both computers are clean (and let me know if you need
malware removal steps), now run through MVP Hans-Georg Michna's network
troubleshooter here:

http://www.michna.com/kb/wxnet.htm

Work through all the steps and if you run into a problem, post the
results of the troubleshooter and where you had the problem.
