for all of those people getting the access denied you do not have permission .... msg when trying to file share and have been thus far unable to solve it I solved mine. The problem was all my users on my windows xp pro machines had no passwords and a setting on local security policies was set to only allow them to log onto console only if no password present. I changed the setting like this

Go to Control Panel | Performance and Maintenance | Administrative Tools | Local Security Policy.
Expand Local Policies | Security options.
Double-click Accounts: Limit local account use of blank passwords to console login only, which is enabled by default. Disable this option

and problem solved I am now able to file and printer share no problem. I suspect this has caused a lot of other people problems so fyi

it seems it only worked for me if the xp pro machines are not doing simple file sharing.
