File Sharing Problem between 2000 Pro and XP Pro

Ron

Hi, there,

I have a desktop (WIN 2000 Pro) and a laptop (WIN XP Pro).
Both are connected to a router/DHCP Server, which is
connected to a cable modem to get on the Internet. Both
are in same workgroup and subnet, and have same usernames
and passwords. The physical connection and name resolution
between two PCs are good. I can ping each other using PC
names, as well as IP addresses.

The problem is: I can see the XP's shared folder from
2000, but can't see 2000's shared folder from XP.

Could anyone help me on this?

Thanks.

Ron

I'm not an expert with networking but I found that adding
the name of the user on the Win XP computer to the list of
Users on the Win 2000 computer has allowed me to access
files on the Win 2000 from the XP computer.

If that user name is already there, are you running a
firewall? The Win XP firewall might be enabled (if so
disable it) or if you are using a commercial firewall add
the IP addresses of the local computers to the list of
trusted addresses.

Thanks, Malel!

Unfortunately I did have same user list on both machines
and disabled any firewalls in the my tiny home network.
But I still cannot access shared folders on W2K machine
from XP machine.

I've been struggling on this for a while. Somebody please
help me. My wife would lose all her confidence on me as an
engineer if I can not solve this problem.
