home networking between win XP home and XP pro

I am trying to hook up a windows XP home PC and XP pro PC through a DSL
router. Both computers are connected to the internet, but the XP home
computer can't find the pro computer in the workgroup. They are both
in the same workgroup. The pro computer can find and share with the
home computer. I can also connect to the pro computer by using remote
desktop from the home computer. I can also ping the pro computer by
name or IP address. I just can't add the pro computer to my network
places or access shared files through workgroups. Any ideas?

One of the most common causes of this problem would be a misconfigured or
overlooked personal firewall, or other security component. There are several
other possibilities too, and any might be the cause of your problem. Read this
article with an open mind.

You could look at "browstat status" and "ipconfig /all" from each computer, and
diagnose the problem. Read this article, and linked articles, and follow
instructions precisely (download browstat!):
