file sharing, permissions, clean slate?

Still trying to open up file sharing on the c-drive of one PC on the LAN,
but it blocks remotely accessing "certain" documents and settings folders
with "access denied". LAN has two WinXP-pro PC's networked by Linksys
router/hub. Already unchecked ICF, and did network wizard for a "hub"
arrangement. There's been a lot of checking and unchecking simple file
sharing, and some checking and unchecking of sharing and unsharing, on
c-drive and folders below it.

1) In the end, shouldn't "non-simple" file sharing (unchecked simple...)
allow full access to entire c-drive so I can see ALL folders and files from
"host" PC and also do backups from the "host" PC in the office? and

2) Since it's muddled where "sharing" is, is there a way to clear the slate,
a few steps to get everything "reset", then set once at the c-drive level
for shaing so that all child folders follow and there isn't a need for
child-level sharing setups.

Here's what's set up on the remote PC so far and what happens when the
"host" PC tries to access the folders...

c:\[has simple sharing. Previously unchecked, didn't work]

c:\documents and settings\Administrator (access denied)
c:\documents and settings\All Users (accessible)
c:\documents and settings\Default User (accessible)
c:\documents and settings\John Doe (first user, accessible)
c:\documents and settings\Mary Smith (access denied)
c:\documents and settings\Bill Green (access denied)
etc.

Appreciate suggestions.

The Wizard calls your router/hub a "residential gateway". Specify
that option, not the hub option. The hub option tells the Wizard that
you connect directly to the Internet with a public IP address, so the
Wizard enables XP's firewall.

Yes.

Un-share and re-share the whole drive. That's especially likely to be
necessary if you've recently disabled simple file sharing.
