file sharing over network containing xp and 2000 operating systems

We have set up a home network between 4 computers using a
linksys befw11s4 wireless access point and router with 4
port switch. 3 of the computers are running xp and 1 is
using 2000. I created the workgroup using xp, then passed
the network wizard disk, created on my pc, to the other 2
xp users. when we tried the disk in the 2000 machine, we
got an error message instructing us that the disk would
configure 98, ME, and xp, but not 2000. We then
configured the network place manually on the 2000 machine
and all seemed well. All the xp machines can see each
others shared folders, and access them. The 2000 machine
can see the xp machines and can access the files in the
shared folders, but the xp machines can see the 2000
machine, but cannot access any of the shared folders on
it without a logon name and password, which the owner
doesn't think he ever enabled. I have checked the
properties on the 2000 machines' shared folders, and all
sharing rights are enabled. Is there another main menu
somewhere which locks the pc from sharing anything at
all, unless a password is entered? or could it be a
personal firewall setting which is barring the xp users
from the 2000 users files? please help!

Thankyou for your time,

Nick

Have same users and same passwords in XP as in 2k. It wont
prompt for a password and you will be able to share files
directly.

I am having a similar problem. Win 2000 machine is the
host and XP Pro is the client. XP can access shared
folders on 2000 but not vice versus. When attempting to
access XP from 2000, get "incorrest password or unknown
username" message but entering correct username/password
doesn't work. Have identical users/passwords setup on
both machines. What else could I be doing wrong? Thanks
