I get the context menu, but when I select "Sharing and Security" or
"Properties", the explorer window looses focus, but the properties wizard
does not appear.
BTW, sorry to jurk you around so much with my previous problem. In the
process of trying so many things I nuked all but one of my shared folders. I
ran into this while recreating my shared folders.
Mike,
When you post in Usenet, you learn to expect periodic interruptions of threads,
that is, folks drift in and out of conversations. Usenet was never designed
with any long term debugging sessions in mind. I appreciate your apology
though.
The Properties wizard is a bit unpredictable for me sometimes too, along with a
very irritating tendency of Windows to restart the entire Explorer (not just the
Windows Explorer but the entire desktop, Taskbar, etc) when I select "Sharing
and Security" from the context menu. I learned to select "Properties"
immediately, which works for me. I have loaded a lot of third party (free)
utility software probably causing this, maybe you recently loaded something on
your computer?
I've been reading thru various posts in microsoft.public.windowsxp.general, and
microsoft.public.windowsxp.help_and_support, and see various hints from Kelly
which might be relevant. Maybe if you post your query there you might get help.
I've worked with screen objects getting lost in the past, and found sometimes
things get lost when they're saved under one screen resolution or configuration,
maybe a dual monitor to single monitor change. Occasionally I have a moment
when I shove something like the Properties window out of the way, to the very
edge of the screen, to make maximum room on the screen for something else.
Remembering half an hour later that a window has only a 2 pixel handle on the
edge of the screen is not always easy, especially if it gets covered up by the
taskbar.
