File sharing between XP and Vista.... what am I missing?

I've spent the last 5 hours trying to network my Vista build 5384 to XP SP2
through a D-Link DGL-4300. Neither computer can see the other but they can
both ping each other. I have firewalls turned off on both systems as well as
all that crazy Vista security for troubleshooting. My two XP systems can see
and share with out a problem. What am I missing here?

I installed the Beta last night and had no problems sharing files between
that and an XP SP2 machine. doublecheck your settings, they need to be in
the same workgroup and the same domain. I use MSHOME and WORKGROUP. Also
you should be able to see your gateway as part of your network and will need
to set up your file sharing on the Vista machine. I was unable to share
until I set the advanced settings for filesharing. Once this was done, I was
able to share an entire partition. I am at work now, so only going by
memory, but if you still have problems, I can doublecheck my settings at home
and repost.

I'm having a similar problem that's driving me nuts.
I'm running Vista on one machine (dual boot on separate partition) and XP on
another. Both are in the same workgroup. Logged in on both with
administrative accounts. Both have Sharing and Security setup for full
control to everyone.

When on the XP machine, I can see and download files from the Vista machine,
but when I try to put files in the shared folder, I get the access denied
prompt.
When on the Vista machine, I get a prompt wanting me to login on the XP
machine before I can see the shared folders.
I've never seen this when sharing XP to XP (or Win2K)
On the Vista machine, Network access and public folder are both set to allow
"anyone woh can connect to my network" access. I have printer sharing
turned off at the moment as there is no printer connected.

What am I missing?

Additional: It shouldn't matter, but the Vista machine is connected via
wireless and the XP machine is wired.

I am having a similar problem. Wired Vista PC and a wireless XP machine, but
neither can see the other on the network. I'm using the same workgroup
name... I ran the wizard twice on each machine. I'm not sure what I'm
missing. I set one folder on the Vista machine to share with "everyone"
privileges. I have around 5 folders on the XP laptop set to share (these
shares are working with another XP box on the network).

That would be correct, because of the security features in Vista. I have
several programs that will not write to a drive other than C: because of
those same features. When manually moving a file, I get a security alert,
click continue, and off it goes. That being said, while I haven't tried it,
I believe it may work out to use the Administrator account. And I don't mean
an account with admin setting, I mean the account automatically created by
Windows with account name "Administrator"
