File Search

P

Paula

I've been running windows XP for about two years.
Recently since moving the computer I find that the system
can no longer find files in the C drive.

When I click on "My computer" I get the symbol for a
flashlight searching. It can go on for an extended time.
Sometimes it will finally display the computer's drives
but often the searching just continues indefinitely. If I
go to "Windows Explorer" it will immediately display all
folders except for the "My Computer".

Restoring the system to an earlier date corrects the
problem, but only for a short time. Within a day the
problem is back. I have gone through a defrag but that
didn't improve it.

All other programs are working correctly.

Would appreciate any ideas.

Thanks

Paula,

When you click Start and then click My Computer, or when you double-click My Computer on your Windows desktop, Windows may search (a flashlight may appear) for a long time (for example, 5 minutes) before files appear. Disable the Windows Image Acquisition service. More Information: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;819017

If this does not help, uninstall 821557 hotfix
