File recovery

Is there a way I can recover some files lost when I had
to format my HDD using Windows XP Home Edition?
NTFS was the file system used.

Hi there, I previously posted a note to the newsgroup
asking how to re format my hard drive and then re-install
windows XP home Edition.

NTFS is the file system I have been using.

Can you please direct me to some help. The reason I want
to do this is because my boot.exe file has disappeared
from my system, and I have tried several times, by re-
loading and booting the Windows XP CD; getting the WIN XP
onto floppies from microsoft, and none of these have
replaced my boot.exe to my registry.
