File-Publish Web

When editing hyperlinks in my site, I occasionally modify the target (usually
a PDF, replacing the existing file but keeping the same file name). When I
go to FILE>PUBLISH WEB, I notice that the details about the particular file
in the publish (e.g., date/time of last save) have not been updated and
consequently the file is not uploaded to my host server. FrontPage
apparently does not recognize the modified file as a "changed page." I've
tried to close the web then re-open it, exit FrontPage and restart, changing
the optionss for changed pages, all to no avail. Why is this happening?
What can I do to view the updated details and ensure the updated file is
published? Thanks in advance.

Are you importing the changed document into your web letting it overwrite
the current document, before publishing?

I do this all the time without any problems.

I do not select the "all pages" option when I publish. Wouldn't that publish
all files (even those that have not changed) or does that simply publish the
changed files?

All pages will publish all pages and files. Changed pages only will publish
only changed pages and files.

That's what I thought. I want to avoid publishing all files, because this
would be too time consuming. I guess my question is why the source web
directory does not reflect the modifications when I look at the details.
Even when I save a modified page (for instance a PDF) into the source web
directory (and I'm prompted whether I want to overwrite a file), FrontPage
does not display the modification in the publish view and consequently
doesn't publish the updated file.

Delete the original file from the web first, then import the updated version.

When you modify a file outside of FP, it doesn't know that it was modified
even if the date/time has changed. I would save it with a new filename in
the web, and modify the hyperlink. Or you could just save it as is and
manually publish it from the web folder view. Alternately, have you tried
to recalculate the web? Might work.
