After installing XP Pro upgrade on a ME system, a warning
message would appear, "Windows File Protection; files that
are required for Windows to run properly have been
replaced by unrecognized versions." At one point the
system completely locked up and would not boot normally. I
have reinstalled, installed critical updates and drivers
but still get same message. The PC is almost 4 years old,
CPU is AMD 750 MHz, 128 MB ram, NVIDIA Vanta video and a
30 GB HD running at 5400 rpm mostly unused.
Please help, thanks

System File Checker (SFC) might fix your problem, it scans, verifies and
replaces incorrect system files. Start->Run->sfc
You might want to go to the windows help system in your start menu and read
about it first.
