Hi All,

When one does a File-> Open, the "Open" window lists on the left hand panel
options for "My Recent Documents", "Desktop", "My Documents", "My Computer",
"My Network Places" ... (i am using MS Word 2003)

My question is .. can we remove these options, and maybe put just "My
Documents" as an option to access files from. I am trying to lock down the
OS, where the user can access only IE and MS Word, but Word gives access to
all other files on the computer. So even though i locked down access to the
drives (C:\ and D:\) word has a potential hole.

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

OK. I got the registry hack for removing the shortcuts i was talking about.
So thats done. Now the next problem is ... in the same File->Open window, i
need to gray out or disable the drop down menu, which will still allow to
select the different drives.

If anyone knows the solution, please let me in. Hopefully i am clear to
ya'll about what i want to do.

Thanks

And then you will find all sorts of other ways in which users can do things
you don't want them to do until eventually you will need to somehow disable
their fingers.

I don't know what you mean when you say you locked down access to the drives
but you didn't do a very good job if they are still accessible via Word (and
IE presumably). Word is not the tool for this job. Protect the files
properly.

You right Tony.
I did miss a few things while locking down the drives, which i finally
figured a while back. Thanks for the reply though.
