File locking by app

Something has gone wrong with an .avi file in my "video" folder so that
looks like the file is locked by an application and it's unerasable. But no
app or process it seems to be using the file, so I'm wondering if anyone out
there can help me understanding which process is really locking the file and
how to force its unlock, just in case an app crash or similar event left it
like this.
Thanks to anyone that will help.

Hello, Luca S
If Frank's advice [deleting frm safe mode] doesn't turn the trick,
you might try:
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_abc.htm
[advice frm Kellys-Korner] the tip under "Delete-AVI". Also, if
you're NOT using 'simple file sharing', you should confirm that you are
indeed the file's owner. Rt-click the filename, choose Sharing and
Security > Security > Advanced > Owner. If you're not the current
owner, take steps to take ownership of the file; many times that's all
that's needed.

Were you able to ever play the AVI? If not, the file may be corrupted and
prove to be difficult to delete.

If you did play the file, open up the program you used to view the .avi
file. See if you can remove the file from the programs history. Also, go to
Start | My Recent Documents and clear it out of there. Then try to delete
the file again.
