File is not associated with a program

I'm having a problem with both Microsoft Works and Yahoo
Messenger. When I click on a link (i.e. search the web
in Works, or check my e-mail messages on Yahoo Messenger)
I get the message "this file is not associated with a
program, create an association in the folder options
control panel. Any help?

One avenue...

Click on Doug's link below, then XP-FIXES. There's a link to restoring
default file associations easily.

Open Internet Explorer > Tools > Options > Programs > "Reset Web Settings". Also, set a default mail client.
