File does not have a program associated with it

Have PC with windows xp sp2
After virus attack now receive the following msg on shortcuts, control panel
and
direct access to programs after START.

The file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action
create an association in the folder options control panel.
also that the appl failed to init properly 0xc0000006

cannot perform system restore, restore starts under safe mode but after reboot
system restore cannot complete 'program not found'

Fix the .lnk, .cpl (Control Panel) associations and maybe some others here:

results. any other thoughts?

You may need to do a repair install of XP. But first, try one of these
free online virus scans to see if you're still infected.. that could
explain your problems:
