file is dirty/reserved system space

i somehow lost my reserved system space. i have windows xp pro on a dell
3000. i have professional disk keeper 8 and did a boot defrag and managed to
get it back. when it does the check disk it says file system is dirty. what
does this mean and does it cause problems? is there something else i have to
do?
