Export the file from MS Works to RTF, Word 6.0 or other format that MS Word will work with.

Right-click a file and then click Open With.

Under Programs, click the program in which you want the file to open, or
click Browse to locate the program you want.

To ensure that Windows always uses the same program to open the file, or any
other file with the same file name extension, in the Open With dialog box,
select the Always use this program to open these files check box.

Always use this program to open these files
[[Specifies that the next time you open this file, or any other file having
the same file name extension, you want Windows to use the program that you
specify here.]]

This does not work? Open Word. Click File> Open and change "Files of type"
to Works 6.0 and 7.0. Then navigate to the folder with your Works document.
Select file, click Open.
