File Extensions Missing

I have a program that will export data to Excel .xls . However, that filetype
is missing in the dropdown menu of filetypes. It works fine on my desktop,
but that tile type is missing on my laptop. Both use XP and the same version
of Excell.
 
It might give somebody a clue if you actually mentioned the name of the
program.
