File encrypting NTFS not available

What clues can I find about why the "Encrypt files"
checkbox is grey on either of my drives, from the top of
the volume down to the last directory in a path?

This is what I get for watching Tech TV (sigh)

Encryption is not available with XP Home, only on XP Pro.
Encryption is not compatible with NTFS compression, only
one or the other can be active.

You must have Windows XP Pro and not Home.
