I have two directories on my computer, both in the c:\Documents and
Settings\username\ directory structure, that contain some archived
executables and zip files. One directory sits on the Desktop, the other is
buried one folder deep in My Documents. Files are not moveable, deleteable
or changeable with any method I've tried.
Chkdsk finds no problems (through 5 levels of testing). System Mechanic
finds no problem other than to say that there are corrupt files (can't fix).
Spinrite finds no missing files or disk problems. XACLS cannot open files to
change permissions.
Cannot delete from command console. Looking at any of the corrupt file
Properties, I see only one tab: General. Nothing shows in "Opens with:"
Any attempt to change any attribute gives an error.
All of these files show varying Created and Modified dates BUT all of these
files also show an Accessed date of Thursday, August 24, 2006, 8:35: AM (and
within seconds of each other).
I have not had any viruses, worms or other exploits infect my computer.
I'm running Win XP Media Edition 2005 on a Toshiba Satellite P105. I've
exhausted Toshiba's ability to support me. Hard drive is a SATA 160G.
Any thoughts would be appreciated. Really don't like my next option which
is to reformat and restore. Yuck.
