Could someone please tell me the command that checks all the windows system
files. I have the feeling something is missing but I'm not ready to do a
full or repair re-install just yet.

You are thinking of sfc /scannow run from a command line. Note that the way
windows file protection works, where damaged system files are replaced from
the file cache, running sfc /scannow doesn't often help to fix system
problems. All it does is repopulate the file cache replacing any files in
the cache that are missing or damaged. It's not very common for this to be
needed, but sometimes it does help. Here is a link for how to use sfc.

A repair install is a more thorough way to repair a damaged system.
