file attribs...

I just made a boot up floppy, (using XPpro - "create startup disk")
and I want to attrib -r -s -h boot.ini NTLDR Ntdetect.com and
Bootsect.dos and copy them to the floppy.
Why, using Windows Explorer, can't I just select those files and rt-click |
properties to clear the flags i.e. the hidden flag is greyed out and won't
clear ?

.....GOD !!! ...is there a bloody copy of attrib.exe in xp somewhere
......there used to be a command (dos external commands directory ) in W98
....how the bloody hell do you do what used to be simple things in W98, in XP
....why do simple bloody operations take forever and half of them require
rebotting 50 bloody time, or continually booting from floppy !!!!! ?

....I had to do it from the command prompt, THAT WAS F*****G RIDICULOUS !!!
Why bother to put file flags on a rt-click properties box at all ?
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't like XP anymore, it's CRAP !!

Because they are system files. You can't change the System attribute
from Explorer, and you can't change the others without changing that.
So do it from the Command Prompt with attrib, and put +s back after
copying.

Extremely grateful to you I am. I was taking a few preemptive measures, and
was getting REALLY rattled, because my W98se / XP pro (which has been
gorgeous for months), was heading towards a reinstall of W98se. Seeing as I
didn't have anyone to shout at, and nowhere to be seen to have a tantrum, I
though I'd do it in here ! For two pins I'd have thrown the damned thing
out of the Window :)

There's just SO much to do to reinstall, and I wanted to get W98se fully
updated b4 next week.

....I'm all calm now, W98se's back in and lovely, after 6 hours of
installing, tweaking, and rebooting !
