File associations not getting saved

Before explaining my problem, I would like to say that I have not registry
access. So editing the registry is beyond question.

My problem is that, recently Windows lost some file associations [not all].
And so whenever I try to open files of those types, it asks me to identify a
program, and then opens it using that. This is quite a labourious process and
so I wanted to know if there is some way I can fix it. One of the file types
is pdf. So everytime I need to select Adobe Reader from the Open With menu
and then open the file.
 
I have not registry access

You have no access to using Regedit.exe, or no Permissions to alter certain
registry keys? The file association information is kept under
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT and limited user accounts have read access by default.
Therefore you need administrative privileges to alter the central file
association settings.
