I'm not sure if my mom did something on her laptop or if
she's been infected with the virus mentioned on this url :
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w3
2.yaha.removal.tool.html

...., but the whole thing is, I can't run
any .EXE .COM .BAT files.

I can't run any of the standard tools : system restore,
regedit, mmc, gpedit.msc.

I'm about to follow the instructions outlined in the
above mentioned url, but was wondering if anyone has seen
anything like this ?

If the above procedures don't work, I'm going to have to
rebuild, which is what I was trying to avoid.

any help ?
thanks
JT

Hi,

Sure sounds like she's infected with something. Try renaming an executable
to an .scr extension, see if that allows it to run (rename msconfig.exe to
msconfig.scr for example).
