File Assoc. not staying

Bruce

I have a program I use for photo's , and have it associate with most
photographs. But the assoc. doesn't stay, as far as the icons go, it will
open up alright, but when I look in a folder, the icon assoc. shows the
unassoc one, though I click on itand it works. According to there tech
support, they say it is a windows problem. I go into file assoc and check it
but it won't stay?

It sounds like another program is resetting the association? What program
does it switch back to? Open that program and see if there is an option to
disassociate that file type.

I use Ulead photo impact. Doesn't seem the program itself is resetting, but
the icon.
If I doubleclick the file .jpg, then it will open with the program properly,
but
the icon will reset to the unknown file type icon. I have tried to use the
always use the program for this file.

OK, I misunderstood. Start menu, click on My Computer, from the tools menu
pick Folder options, Click on the File Types tab, scroll down to find the
extension you want to change and highlight it, click on the Advanced button,
click on the Change icon button.

Before trying this I would look through the options in Ulead Photo Impact
and see if you can change the file associations. Try changing it to off the
association, exit the program, then turn it back on. There may also be an
option to reset all the associations.

You could try uninstalling Ulead then reinstalling it. If that doesn't work
I'm out of suggestions.

thanks, tried that, but didn't work.
One suggestion that apparently works on there newsgroup is to edit system
registry, though I don't like it , might be my only option.
Have emailed there tech suppot, not much help though
