I know that everyones my documents folder size is different, so excluding at
folder can someone tell me what is the average size of data that is being
copied over. I am transfering from xp to xp. I just want to know because if
it is too much data i dont want to transfer it across the network

Even ignoring personal documents, the size of installations vary greatly
depending on what applications you have installed and a number of other
things. Open Windows Explorer and then for each folder on C:\, right-click
it and check Properties. Add up the sizes and you'll have the total.

Or subtract the total for My Documents from the total for C:\ drive ...
about 29Gigs here, including a couple or three large games.

Yeah, I forgot to have OP subtract the MD total, although OP is probably
going to transfer the whole thing, so why not calculate the sum total?

But you don't want to calculate the total space used, which is what is shown
in My Computer for C:\ drive. That figure includes a large amount of slack
space (unused space inside used clusters) that would not be involved in any
transfer. To know how much data will be transferred, you need to add up the
sizes of the folder and files on C:\, as shown in folder or file Properties.
