File and print sharing

I have a LAN connecting my two home desktops using a wired conenction via a
Netgear DG834 router. I set up each family member's docs files and my printer
for sharing and all was well. The next day I could not access my wife's or
son's docs and nor could I communicate with the printer, though I can still
access my own docs. When trying to access the others I get the message "
{folder name} is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this
network resource. Contatc the administrator of this server to find out if you
have access permissions. Access is denied" When trying to print I am told the
PC cannot communicate with thr printer.

I'd be really grateful for any explanations/tips, being no kind of expert
myself!

One of the most common causes of your problem would be a misconfigured or
overlooked personal firewall, or other security component. There are several
other possibilities too, and any might be the cause of your problem. Read this

Is NetBT Enabled on all computers?

Or you could look at "browstat status", "ipconfig /all", "net config server",
and "net config workstation", from each computer, and diagnose the problem.

Thanks Chuck. I'll give this a try.

Remiss of me not to get back sooner and say thanks for the advice. So far I
have got the printer working again. You'll gather I don't get much spare time!
