Hello... is there a way to encrypt or secure specific files or folder on a PC
running Windows XP. My PC at home is shared, with kids and sometimes visitor.
However, I have some personal files that I do not wish for other users to
see. How do I solve this problem. Thank you.

Put these files on a removable drive. Remove the drive and secure it under
lock and key.

Jim...Thank you. I was thinking about that option as well. It's a bit
inconvinient since some of these files you edit frequently, but it surely
ensures security and peace of mind.

It sounds like you only have one user account on your computer, and it is an
Administrator account. You could set up other user accounts such as with the
names of your kids, and define them each as "Limited". They wouldn't need to
have a password, so it would still be easy for them to get on the computer.
Keep your Administrator user account but assign a password to it so that
only you can log on to that account. Once you have these user accounts
established, you can specify which files are shared among user accounts.
Doing all of this is pretty easy, but for more information on how to do all
of this, just go to the Windows XP help and search on user accounts.
