I have an Excel file saved on disk that I frequently
use. I've never had any problems opening or closing this
file and all of a sudden today I tried to open it and I
get an error message stating it may be read only. I
can't right click on it to check the properties either,
doing this locks up my system. Does anyone know how I
can rectify this and why it changed out of the blue?? I
can open all the other files on the disk.

On disk -- do you mean on a floppy disk?

Try to copy the file from the disk to your HD If you can do this, you should be
able to open the file, if you can't copy the file, you have experienced the
"save a file to a flopppy error" syndrom

ROT for Excel NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER open and save directly
to any removable medium. Always save to HD, copy to floppy, copy to HD and open
from HD. The mechanisms that Excel use to save its files will ensure corruption
at one point or the other.
