File access denied.

I typically share my Outlook 2003 files to a laptop by copying the
outlook.pst., mailbox.PAB, archive.pst, and the extend.dat file to
C:WINDOWS\Local Settings\Apllication Data\Microsoft\Outlook directory.

My main computer runs Windows XP. I'm trying to send it to a laptop running
Windows 98.

It used to work flawlessly, but now I recieve a message that states:
"Unable to open your default e-mail folders. File access is denied. You do
not have ther permission required to access the file C:WINDOWS\Local
Settings\Apllication Data\Microsoft\Outlook\Outlook.pst."

How can I correct this?

Is the .PST marked read-only? Outlook needs write access to it.

BTW, you don't need to copy your mailbox.pab file or extend.dat file to the
laptop. The PAB file is not used in newer versions of Outlook, and
extend.dat is automatically created by Outlook as needed.
