I had to reformat my hard drive because of some type of
worm. I back up all my files but one that I backed up I
can remember where it needs to be restored too. All I can
remember is that it had the numbers 1386. Can anyone help
with this problem?

Hi

If you mean the i386 folder, it is the folder that holds the install files
for XP. You can find it on the XP CD. What exactly did you want to do with
it?

I have it backed up on a CD. I want to know that if I
reinstalled the XP system after formatting do I have to
restore this information back to the drive I backed it up
from.

Greetings --

The C:\i386 folder contains WinXP's installation files. These
should already exist on your installation CD, as well. (Unless all
you have is an OEM "Recovery" CD or partition.) They are needed for
repairs to the OS and when you wish to add/install additional
features. If you don't mind inserting a CD every time you make such a
change, you can safely off-load this folder to a CD. Doing so will
not damage WinXP.

In fact, thought, many people deliberately copy this particular
folder from the installation CD to the hard drive to avoid the
inconvenience of having to insert the CD whenever they add features.
But, if you're short of space, you can safely omit the folder,
provided you do save the files.
