hi all
i have a folder on my local disk called 1386 can anyone please explain
what this folder is for. thank you

In a nutshell it is i386 folder and is used to provide file restore for
the operating system.

This is the folder that Windows XP stores it's setup files. This saves
from inserting the CD when a setup files is needed.

To add to this reply...

If you update the OS with a Service Pack, you also need to slip-stream the i386 folder with
that Service Pack.

In the Registry...

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup
the key; SourcePath
should point to the location of the i386 folder.

So if the folder is; c:\i386
SourcePath = c:\
