Figure 1A, 1B, etc. in TOC

I am trying to label my figures in an arbitrary order, perhaps like this:
1A, 1B, 2, 3, 4, 5A, 5B, 5C, 5D, 6
And I also want them all to be listed in my TOC. If I do:

SEQ Figure \*ARABIC SEQ Figure2\*ALPHABETIC
SEQ Figure \*ARABIC \C SEQ Figure2\*ALPHABETIC
SEQ Figure \*ARABIC \C SEQ Figure2\*ALPHABETIC
SEQ Figure \*ARABIC SEQ Figure2\*ALPHABETIC
SEQ Figure \*ARABIC \C SEQ Figure2\*ALPHABETIC
SEQ Figure \*ARABIC \C SEQ Figure2\*ALPHABETIC

And my TOC is like

TOC \h \z \c Figure

Then I get

1A
2A

but I don't get 1B 1C 2B 2C, etc. where it prints out my TOC.

What gives?

Given that your list numbering is arbitrary (ie, it's not a sequence that
Word can maintain for you anyway) you might as well just enter the IDs you
want instead of stuffing around with SEQ codes. Use a distinct style for the
figure labels and create your TOC from that.

Great suggestion!

However, I lied. I have figures
1, 2A through 2J, 3A through 3J, 4A through 4J, ..., 9A through 9J, and then
10.

And then it randomly turns out that I need to insert a figure between 1 and
2A, and number it "2"...

Is there no way to have TOC pick up all the fields such as

SEQ Figure \*ARABIC whatever
SEQ Figure \*ARABIC \c whateverElse
SEQ Figure \*ARABIC \c whateverElseToo

?

TOCs don't pick up fields as such. They pick up styles or TC entries, both
of which you could use in this case.
