Which Word version?
What sort of a field?
Is this to be an automatic process?

Select the field and copy it to the clipboard and then paste it into the
other document and with it selected there, hold down the Ctrl and the Shift
keys and press F9. That will convert it to ordinary text.

Hope this helps.

For next time, another option is Edit - Paste Special - Unformatted. (In
Word 2007, Ctrl+Alt+V, U, Enter.) This method lets you copy part of a field,
as well, rather than the whole thing, should the need arise.
