Field numbering - Word 2000

I'm trying to copy some endnotes with their reference numbers to somewhere
within the same document. I've tried as Bookmarks and Ref fields and as OLE
Links using paste special.
The text is coming through OK, but the reference/endnote number is "1" for
each copied endnote (even though they are correctly numbered in the endnotes).
Is there any way of repeating the text including the endnote number or of
changing the numbering in the new fields?
Thanks - Al

Hi Al
I'm trying to copy some endnotes with their reference numbers to somewhere
within the same document. I've tried as Bookmarks and Ref fields and as OLE
Links using paste special.
The text is coming through OK, but the reference/endnote number is "1" for
each copied endnote (even though they are correctly numbered in the endnotes).

I would either insert a cross-reference to the number itself right
before each cross-reference of the endnote text; that way, the numbers
should be correct after every field update.

The other approach is to paste them without numbering and either apply a
numbered style or field-based numbering afterwards. In both latter
scenarios, you yourself are fully responsible to adjust the numbering
each time your endnotes change.
