Windows XP Pro has a FAX program. I believe Windows XP Home has same.
Search Windows "Help" for the word "Fax" and you'll find an article for
how to install it and how to use it

Can I create and send faxes from XP Home ed.? I tried
installing an old version of WinFax but it wasn't
compatible. Thanks,
.
Do you have dialup? fax won't work with broadband.
Im also looking for same solution.
When I look at settings in Configure Fax, the modem options are only for
the 56k modem I don't use as I am on Broadband. Is it possible to use
Broadband to send/receive?

By definition, when you send a fax you're trying to send it to somebody's fax
machine which is hooked to a phone line. You either need to hook a phone
line to your PC and do the obvious things or sign up for a service that will
receive your fax via internet and then dial up and send it over a phone line
for you. They charge money.
Since you have the modem already, just connect it to the phone line. The fax
can use the phone and you can continue to use your broadband for your normal
web connection, etc.
