Fax Services

Unable to add Fax Services on XP Pro SP2 either in Add Windows Components or
in Printers and Faxes. US Robotics 56K PVI Modem Checks out OK in Device
Manager.

To add additional components to the Add/Remove Programs list (Windows
Components):

Tools/Folder Options/View/Show Hidden Files and Folders and Show Extensions
for known file types. Then go to Windows Explorer/Inf Folder/Sysoc.inf
(Double Click it). You will find several lines that include the word 'hide'.
Simply remove the word 'hide' (but leave the comma). Save and exit.

Add Windows Components allows selection of fax services. it then goes
through the process of installation the selection. On completion fax
services is not installed and the component selection selection box is
unchecked.

Thanks,

Look at faxsetup.log and tell us where the failure occurs.

Means nothing to me. If I can ever find the fax developers I'll have them
take a look. They seem to have abandoned us right now.

Re-installed Windows XP Pro. Problem Solved. Previous install was done by
an OEM distributor. Installing Fax Services did not ask to insert Win XP CD.

Thank for your help,

OK. I'll tell the developers to ignore the file I sent them.
So tell me again the steps you used to produce this error.

Log in with Adm Priv. Went to Add Remove Programs/Add Windows Components.
Selected Fax Services. Install wizard appeared to finish correctly but did
not install the service. Also did not ask to insert Win XP CD. After doing
a clean install of Windows XP, including a full format, Fax Services
installed correctly. The program requested insertion of the Win XP CD this
time. Apparently the Original OEM install was corrupted.

Thanks,

I see. Do you know what the source was of the installation files used by the
