My home pc runs XP Home and I access the internet via an
external ADSL modem. I want to send and receive faxes
using this modem (over the internet if appropriate). Is
there any reasonably priced, functional software that
will support this?

Many thanks.

What you have to do is get a DSL line filter and a rj11
splitter. the fax will be like a regular dial up with your
fax modem. You can ues it for a regular phone too.

Part # 120 6515 $6.65 you probably get one at Radio

FAX service utilizes only conventional modems - not DSL Network adapters
(which are often referred to as modems).

Faxes are sent over normal telephone lines, not via Internet
connection. You could scan your document and email it to the person
who needs it.

Not entirely true. It is true that traditional faxing, using a
fax/modem, does need to go out using a conventional phone line hooked
up the the fax/modem, and it will be SLOW (33.6).

However, there are services that you can send your scanned image, or
document file, to over the broadband connection, and they will ensure
it gets to the fax machine it need to arrive at.

So yes, you can send out a fax over your DSL modem, just not straight
to the fax machine you are trying to reach. You'll have to go through
a third party to get it there. Most of them charge.
