Hi. I have a cable modem ( high speed ) combined with IP téléphone line.
I just can't configure my Windows Fax machine. Could I plug in my old
2300 bds fax modem to the PC and choose it for receiving/sending faxes ?
Right now Windows doesn't see any modem on my PC from wich to send or
receive faxes.
Thanks for your help.
Gaetan.

You can plug the computer's modem into the router/phone line, like you
would any other phone, or into the standard phone line.

I don't know what you mean by a "modem cable telephone line." If you
mean that you have telephone service over your cable connection (such as
Vonage or Skype) otherwise knwon as VoIP, than faxing may, but probably
won't, work. See http://members.shaw.ca/bsanders/FAQFAX.htm#_Toc88835133

If you were to try to fax using a VoIP connection, you would have to use
a separate fax modem, but probably not your "old 2300 bds fax modem."
See this article for some discussion: http://www.soft-switch.org/foip.html

If you have a regular telephone line -- not over your Internet cable
connection -- than then you can try connecting your old fax modem to
that. However, WinXP Fax Service is notoriously picky when it comes to
modems. See http://members.shaw.ca/bsanders/FAQFAX.htm#_Toc88835142 and
be sure to follow the link to the Windows Catalog.

Nope ! I just use the same cable line for TV, Internet, and phone ! It's
cable phone line.. all in one. Not VoIP !

I will check this right away, Thanks.

A fax machine can only work on a regular telephone line, unless you pay for
one of the services that allows you to fax through the internet.
