favorites problems

Back in early May, I had windows 2000 professionals. I deleted temporary
internet files and cookies trying to speed up my laptop and desktop. I lost
all my favorites. I reinstalled each of them. I recently upgraded to
windows xp hoping to solve the problem, but when I try and organize my
favorites, make a new folder, etc. it just keeps saying loading, but nothing
happens. I have spent numerous hours on help with verizon msn trying to be
able to delete, organize, etc my favorites but no one can help me restore
them. My husband is able to access and organize his, so I don't think I
deleted anything important, but maybe changed my setting some how. Can
someone help me?

Not quite sure exactly what you mean, but Favourites are simply a
folder of shortcuts in the directory
c:\Documents and Settings\[user name]\Favourites.

Empty the IE cache (IE -> Tools -> Intenet Options -> General tab ->
Tempoirary Internet Files section -> Delete Files .... (also tick the
Delete offline option when it pops up) - if you've never done this, or
haven't done it for a while, it may take some time.

Try IE Favourites now

If unsuccessful,
a) Copy the Favourites folder to a Temp directory/location
b) Delete all the shortcuts and folders inside c:\Documents and
Settings\[user name]\Favourites (but not the folder named Favourites)
c) Try IE Favourites now
d) If OK, copy the Favourites back from the Temp folder

You didn't mention if you are on a server, where files maybe installed, or a
stand-alone system.
If you are on a Local Area Network (LAN), and someone moved the file on the
server, OR
you no longer have access to the server (someone may have changed the name),
you won;t be able to access.

Do you remember the name of the program? Does it show up in Start Menu |
All Programs?
Does it show up in Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs?
