Favorites link vs URL

I notice that sometimes when I manually type a URL into my
browser, it returns a "page not found" error. However,
when I access the same page through my Favorites link, it
works fine. I also notice that pages show much more slowly
when the URL is manually typed than when the Favorites
link is accessed.

A Copy of the web page that you place in your Favorites folder is stored on
your computer with additional information such as how frequently IE should
check the site for newer versions.
When you click on a URL a request is passed over the internet to the site
which responds by sending a copy of the requested web page back to your
computer. This copy is temporarily placed in a cache where it can be re-used
in the immediate future. The cache however periodically cleaned of anything
that has dated.
