In Windows 2000 the default was that the Favorites Start->Program folders
could be manually sorted or sorted alphabetically. In XP, it seems that you
can only sort alphabetically. I would like to be able manually change the
sort order of both Favorites and Programs.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Works the same as win2k does. Just drag them around to manually sort them.
(or move them around in explorer)

If I could just move them, I wouldn't have posted the question. ;)

When I try to move something in Start->Programs, nothing happens. Mind you,
I'm not talking about moving a program into a folder, or moving a folder. I
want reorder the applications (e.g. group Office apps together in
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs.

Favorites (particularly the Links folder) I can move items, but they don't
stay listed in the order that I put them. They keep reordering by alpha.

Several people have told me that they have the same experience...and I'd
love to find a solution to this.

Turn on Enable Drag And Drop in SM properties.

Right click start button, properties, customize, advanced tab, check: enable
dragging and dropping.
