FAT32 Memory Cards

Chris

I bought a 8GB microSD to use in my Smartphone.
It works fine in the phone but it does not work in any of my card readers.
It does not show up as a removable drive on my laptop or PC with WinXP SP2.
Another oddity, using Windows Media Player 11 with the phone using a 2GB
(FAT16) card WM would sync my playlists. Not with the 8GB card although I can
drag and drop the music onto the card through WM. Not quite a handy as
syncing playlists.

Any thoughts?

A thought: 8 GB card is most probably HC (high capacity) standard,
and your PC reader doesn't support HC.
Get a HC compatible USB reader.

SD cards of 4GB and above are a different architecture to the smaller cards.
Unless the reader is familiar wih this architecture, it won't be able read
them. The card are usually described as SDHC (with a stylised logo) to
indicate their difference from the common or garden SD card. SDHC cards are
also marked with a class number, which is an indication of its maximum
writing speed. The higher the class the faster the card.
