Fastest Radeon with passive heatsink

I have a 9700 Pro and the active heatsink is just too noisy. Are there any
suitable passive (albeit larger) heatsink replacements? Not using anything
in PCI slots 1 or 2 so a larger heatsink would not be a problem. If not then
which is the fastest Radeon with a passive instead of active heatsink?

Thermaltake Giant II - I'm using one with a 9800 Pro right now with the fan
disconnected, and just using the flow from the side inlet fan to cool it,
works perfectly and nice and quiet :)

Or ZALMAN ZM80C-HP FANLESS VGA HEATPIPE COOLER (you can also get an
optional low rpm fan for it too).

ATI 9600SE... But its dog slow in comparison to performance.

Compare for yourself... And I'm talking about the ATI Brand version
of the 9600se.... about 1/4th speed.

If your'e not using the adjacent pci slot why not do as I did and fit a dummy
PCI card shaped to carry a slower quiet 80mm fan.

I used an old rear bracket from a old obsolete network card, cut a piece of
blank pcb board to match the shape of a pci card, and then cut a hole in it for
the fan.

Remove the original video card fan and store it somewhere safe.

This works very well for me, it gives good cooling to the video card, and its
far quieter (virtually inaudible) than the original.

Just a suggestion.. :)))

John

Thanks everyone for the info and options.

STOP!!!! Don't buy anything until you've read this.

I bought an Arctic Cooling VGA Silencer a week or so ago. Its quite simply
the best PC upgrade I have ever purchased. The build quality is superb,
excellent fitting instructions and the performance of the cooler on my 9700
Pro is just stunning!

In Silent mode!!! I can run my 9700 perfectly stable at over 400MHz with
this thing attached. In Power mode, even higher and its still virtually
silent - I have to put my ear to the back of the PC to tell whether its on
or not, even in power mode - and I have a *quiet* PC.

And best of all its *really* cheap. Like $20 or so? Brilliant Brilliant
Brilliant product. Just buy one!

How do you keep the RAM cool, I understand it doesn't cool all the ram.

That's a fair point, it doesn't. But nothing does really: ram sinks are a
complete waste of time, imho.

But anyway, how does the original ATI hs&fan cool the ram? It doesn't.

In this respect, the Arctic Cooling VGA Silencer is absolutely perfect. It
is completely silent (in silent mode) and yet it gives you the added bonus
of perhaps an extra 30 or 40 MHz core speed. But thats a bonus: its the
silence that he wants it for.

The hsf on my card is an absolute joke, it's no way near efficient enough to
cool a 9800pro (Standard ATI branded), I intend to grab myself an Artic
Cooler as I've read some great reviews about them.

You won't be disappointed. Like I said, its the best single upgrade
component I have ever purchased.
