I have been trying to use FAST wizard. No luck with serial cable, crossover
or burning to CD. Would really like to use serial cable connection.
Transferring from computer with Windows 2000 to new computer with XP Home.
Wizard progresses on both computers to point of autodetecting com ports. Then
shows window which says that they are trying to connect and this may take a
minute. After waiting well over an hour the computers never connected. Any
suggestions?

Have you first made a direct connection to the other computer?

Are you sure you've got the right type of serial cable? A standard,
straight-through cable won't work.

When running the connection setup wizard on the old (Win 2000) computer, in
the "select a device" window, I am not given the option of selecting the COM
port. It shows only the serial port as an option. The new (XP) computer gives
me the option to select the COM port.
I do have a LapLink serial cable, and it is connected to both computers. In
the BIOS setup both COM ports are set on "Auto".
Any ideas?
