Fast user switching after screen saver - problem

E

Eric

I'm running XP Pro SP1. Fast user switching (FUS) works fine when I press
the "windows-L" key combination. However, when my screen saver is active and
I want to log back in, it reverts to the standard login screen. It all
worked fine up until a few days ago. I don't know what changed

I have seen lots of articles on-line about FUS troubleshooting, but none of
them seem to apply:
* this system is not on a domain
* I haven't installed any software like Citrix that replaces the GINA DLL
* I have verified that the FUS service is enabled and running
* I have verified that "Use the Welcome Screen" and "Use Fast User
Switching" are enabled in the Users and Groups control panel
* I have verified that "On resume, password protect" is enabled in the
screen saver control panel

Any other ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Interesting...

When I run LockXP, it says "Fast User Switching is currently enabled".
However, when I hit the "Lock Workstation" button, I get the standard (ie,
non-FUS) unlock dialog.

Interesting!

* On resume, password protect - Should appear only when FUS/Welcome Screen is disabled.
[It actually shows "On resume, display welcome screen" with FUS/WS enabled]

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\LogonType
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\policies\system\LogonType
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\AllowMultipleTSSessions
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\policies\system\AllowMultipleTSSessions

Check the above registry paths and post their values here. They all should be one (with FUS/Welcome Screen enabled.)

Ramesh -

Thanks for the suggestion, but none of those registry values even exist on
my system:

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\LogonType - no
such value
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\policies\system\LogonType -
no "system" key under "policies"
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows
NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\AllowMultipleTSSessions - no such value
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\policies\system\AllowMultiple
TSSessions - no "system" key under "policies"

Are they supposed to be string "1" or dword 1?

Atleast two will be present. Check in the right-pane. Or, disable and re-enable Welcome Screen via Control Panel User Accounts. LogonType [DWORD]. Tried the patch ?

Nope, I double checked. None of those registry entries were there. I tried
adding them, and I tried the patch.

The problem persists.
