Fan continues to run when rebooting computer

Hello,

I am not sure if this is an XP issue or an issue with my hardware. When I
turn off my computer and turn it back on after less than 10 minutes or do a
reboot from Windows, the fan does not turn off. I can avoid the problem if I
wait 20 minutes to turn my comptuer back on. However, sometimes I need to
turn my computer back on sooner.

Is there any way to fix this problem?

Cheers

Clarrifiation:

It may not be a fan, but something sounds like it. It may be something
else. I know the fan usually continues to run when the computer is on in
order to cool the processor.

BIOS normally controls fan operation. If the thermal sensors detect
operation above a certain level -the fans will run faster or continuously
until the kick-off temp is achieved. You may want to download/run
a 3rd-party monitoring application like SpeedFan 4.28 to check how
hot the PC is operating and monitor the fan's rotational speeds.

Desktop PCs should be "Cleaned" on a quarterly basis. Remove all
accumulations of dust and verify Fans are turning. Fan blades and the
heatsink fins of CPUs should also be free of accumulated dust/dirt.
Dust traps heat, Heat ages Electrical components which can lead to
early failure of parts.

That's normal operation. Unless you're experiencing problems,
which you don't mention so I'll assume you are not, there is
nothign wrong. As long as the computer is plugged in, and
especially during restarts, the fan/s will run as long as the
sensors detect enough heat. When the heat has dissipated, the
fans will turn off. Even after at Shut Down and with the power
button turned off, you may still hear the fans run for awhile -
they're getting rid of stored heat as they are designed to do.

If you should remove power from the compuer while it's calling
for the fans to run, you can actually cause the computer to not
start until the parts inside cool down enough.

Nothing to worry about as long as they do shut off eventually if
hte computer is turend off, which it sounds like is happening.
Do NOT unplug the computer to get the fans to stop.

HTH,
