Fan Blower runs continually very loud on Dell Dimension 4550

Fan runs as if possessed. CPU is not hot. Blowing cool air. Will spray
next week and remove all dust to see if that will remedy the situation. If I
shut down, the fan will stop but once booted, it goes non stop like a 747 off
a runway.

If this is recent and it wasn't quiet before, 2 things:

If the fan is monitor controlled, check the BIOS to see if there's any setting for
fan speed. If there is see if there is a setting for the fan to run slow when the
monitored area is cool.

Check inside the box to make sure the fan hasn't loosened from the heatsink/cpu.

Otherwise if it was quiet before, get a new fan because that one is most likely on
it's way south.

With these cold winter months, make sure it's not sucking hot air from a
heater register. Now that I mention that, I think I'd better check too.
