Hi I have a question regarding the 2 fans inside my
computer, I noticed that suddenly both turned on.
Is it normal or something is wrong with my computer cause
they wont shut off. I have windows 2000 pro and this is
the first time that it has happened. I really appreciated
if you could help thanks.

Boot your machine into the BIOS setup program.
You usually do this by pressing the Delete key
after the PC starts.

If your fans run now then it's a hardware problem.
Take the PC back to your dealer if this bothers you.

If the fans only turn on only after Win2000 starts
then it may be a Windows problem. Post again if
this is so.

To add to what Pegasus says, you may also have a motherboard monitoring
utility running in the background that keeps an eye on various
temperature sensors and is set to turn fans on or off depending on
fluctuations. Such a utility would be installed at system assembly early
in the OS installation process. It should be discussed in the mainboard
manual, and identifiable on the motherboard-driver CD (not the W2k CD)
if such a CD came with the hardware.

Perhaps the fans have been running all along and dust buildup now causes
them to be audible?

Perhaps a heatsink on a chip has been loosened? They need to be tight,
or don't dissipate heat well, and a sensor driven fan(s) as described
above would kick in.

Perhaps case vents, if there are any, have become clogged with dust and
reduced normal unassisted air flow across the innards?

It really depends on how the fans are hooked up. They could be hooked directly to power and should have been working
all along or they could be hooked to a thermal switch, which would turn the fans on if the temperature gets to high. This
switch could be on the motherboard or an indepedent device in the case. You might want to check to see if the fan on your
CPU heat sink is still working correctly. Has any additional hardware been added to the system which would increase the
temperature or anything put next to the system that would block air flow into and out of the case?
